Information we collect

AnchorNotes does not require an account and does not collect your notes, note titles, app associations, Markdown content, or local AI prompts. The app contains no advertising or cross-app tracking technology.

Where your notes are stored

Each note is stored locally on your Mac as a plain Markdown file. Separate local metadata remembers details such as its associated app, window position, color, and display mode.

If you choose to back up or sync the AnchorNotes folder with a third-party service, that service’s privacy policy applies to the copies you place there.

App Store purchases

Apple processes the optional AnchorNotes Pro purchase. AnchorNotes uses StoreKit to verify access to unlimited active notes and does not receive your payment card details. Apple’s own terms and privacy policy apply to the transaction.

Window information and optional permission

Experimental window attachments use local window information, such as the owning app, window identifier, size, and position, to identify destinations and show the appropriate notes. Window assignments and names are held in memory for the session, not saved in your note files or sent to AnchorNotes.

Choosing Show window names requests optional macOS Screen Recording access. macOS uses this permission to protect other apps’ window titles, which can contain filenames, webpage titles, or other personal information. See Apple’s explanation of window metadata privacy. AnchorNotes uses the permission only to read window names. It does not capture screen images or record video.

You can use window attachments without this permission, with numbered labels, and revoke access in macOS System Settings → Privacy & Security. Turning off window attachments returns affected notes to Entire App and keeps their content.

On-device intelligence

On macOS 26, the optional rewrite feature uses Apple’s on-device Foundation Models framework and requires Apple Intelligence. Note content processed by this feature is handled on your device and is not sent to AnchorNotes.

On macOS 26, optional note dictation uses the microphone and Apple’s Speech framework only while you are actively dictating. Speech is transcribed on your device. AnchorNotes does not store the microphone audio or send it to AnchorNotes.

Website data

This website does not use advertising cookies or analytics trackers. Basic technical request data may be processed temporarily by our hosting provider and the Inter font CDN to deliver the site securely and reliably.

Data sharing and sale

We do not sell personal information. Because AnchorNotes does not receive your note content, we cannot share it with advertisers, data brokers, or other third parties.

Children’s privacy

AnchorNotes is a general-purpose productivity app and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

If the app’s data practices change, we will update this page and revise the date above. Material changes will be explained clearly.
